A castle where we were treated like royalty....

The atmosphere here is very romantic and sumptuous. The staff is gracious and most attentive (and informative). The deluxe classic room was great with a huge modern bathroom and comfy beds. We were the only ones there except for one night. There was a fruit basket with a bottle of wine and bottled water waiting for us. There was ice in the evening. Internet was free and the breakfast was fresh and delicious. When you enter the old walled city, the mini castle is on the right, down the street as you enter. The beautiful Parador is a little further on (so if you go that far, you missed it), with a church in between Pampinot and the Parador. The parador was just TOO expensive.
This was worth it. Buffet breakfast included cheeses, ham (dried, cured), fruit, cereals, yogurt, jams, breads, crossants; all elegantly displayed in a bright cheeful room downstaires. We stayed 3 nights and were able to park out front. TIP: Park at the little orange pilons bec that is what they are reserving for you. Otherwise, the apparently have parking in the back. We loved the place. It was surprisingly quiet and we even had a tiny balcony. And we had the small room which was plenty big and in Victorian style.. Yet still very inviting and clean! The others must have been amazing.
We went to nearby Donibane for a day trip. It was nice, a seatown, with gorgeous scenery only interrupted by a lot of industry going on. (sad face)
TIP: Leaving Hondarribia: Go G3440 to Donibane ( a beautiful drive, reminds me of Big Sur) - at about km 13 (?) you will notice an ocean walk area on the right-it is an awesome walk to the rocky area overlooking the sea, meandering among the trees and sheep. We were virtually alone, great for a picnic or romantic walk. A bit uphill on the way back.
